The Krasnochikoysky District is located in the South-Eastern Zabaikalye, 6 km away from the regional centre. The largest part of the district (86%) is occupied by forests, half of which are cedar forests. A projected national park “Chikoy” is also located here.
The Krasnochikoysky district is one of the most beautiful places in Zabaikalye. Ethnically the largest part of population is Russian (descendants of Cossacks and old believers) and Buryats (descendants of the aboriginals), which creates the unique character of the district with its beautiful houses and bright national attires.

Aginsk datsan was founded in 1811 and sanctified in 1816. Currently the general education level of the Aginsk datsan matches the leading monasteries in Tibet, Mongolia and Buryatia. Here, the monks engage in publishing and translating. Extensive construction of altar rooms facilitated development of traditional Buryat art and architecture. Buddhism was an important factor in formation of Buryat morals, national traditions and customs.
