Sports in Chita
Anyone will tell you that! Statistically every fourth Chita citizen regularly plays sports. There are various sports institutions oriented at mass sports, specialized and applied sports training, amateur and professional sports, elite sports, coach training and sports medicine.
There are more than 70 sports entities of various organizational and ownership forms in Chita.
In 2010 more than 200 competitions in 30 types of sport were held. The competitions included Chita Mayor’s Cup in carting, motorsports, equestrian sports, ball room dancing, traditional first of May open marathon which will be held for the 60th time in 2011, and mass competitions “Russian Ski Track", Cross-Country Race of Nations, Orange ball, Russian Azimuth.
Industrial spartakiads became a tradition in Chita. On the Sportsman's day the winners of these spartakiads reveal the best sports team among railway employees, powermen, sole proprietors, press representatives, education workers, etc. In 2011 regulatory and administrative authorities held their traditional XII spartakiad. 
18 children's and youth sports schools train about 13 thousand children and teenagers in 30 sports departments (which makes 25% of children and teenagers of the total number of young Chita citizens aged 6-15). There are children’s and youth sports clubs in schools. There are more than 300 sports teams with 77500 participants (77111 in 2009). Various competitions are also held in the city sports leagues of students of universities, colleges and schools.
Systematic training, sports rehabilitation of citizens with health limitations (disabled) is the task of the City sports and health club for disabled.
Material and technical resources are continuously updated, good conditions for mass and specialized sports are being created. Construction of the second extension to the covered ice stadium and reconstruction of stadiums at school 36, schools 6-8, and Yunost stadium were completed. Reconstruction of stadiums at school 9, school 38 and school 40 was commenced. Laying of artificial turf is completed at Temp stadium. In early 2011 a modern sports and entertainment complex "Megapolis sport” was opened, decision about construction of Ice stadium in KSK micro district was taken.
