Multinational Chita

Chita is home to peoples of more than 100 nationalities.

It's a multiconfessional city; its citizens respect traditions of Christian, Catholic, Muslim, Buddhist and Jewish traditions. In 2006 the construction of Orthodox Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, the biggest cathedral in Siberia, was completed. In 2008 the Buddhist temple was reconstructed.

There is an Assembly of Zabaikalye peoples. Good neighbourhood policy promoted by elder generation is supported by youngsters. “Multinational Zabaikalye” club which integrated leaders of all expatriate communities of the city and the region was created in Chita. Its main objective is to jointly promote tolerance and humanism in multinational society.  The list of nationalities living in Zabaikalye is long and includes Armenians, Buryats, Tatars, Bashkirs, Germans and many more.   All of them are citizens of Chita and are proud that Zabaikalye has become their home. They are young, ambitious and motivated… They have various origins, traditions and culture but they are united by a common strong commitment to the world peace.  The multinational youth of Zabaikalye wants to create a society based on national equality and solidarity.

The club is also a regional branch ofMultinational Russia”. Hundreds of students and young teachers from all educational institutions will represent this association in the Zabaikalye Territory.

The first informal meeting was dedicated to the cultural traditions of Armenia and Russian-Germans.  During the first meeting the Council was elected and Resolution on preventive measures against extremism among young people was signed.
