Chita - a historic city
Walking in Chita with A.I.Lytsus
If you look at Chita from height you can see that an impressive area of the city (538 km2) is riddled by transportation lines or, put simpler, roads. Most of them have a legal name and status…
Nowadays the “List of Chita streets” contains 828 items. This document approved by the city Mayor includes “named town-planning facilities, which provide transportation and footway connections between residential areas, and industrial areas…,blocks and which have fixed boundaries, starting and ending points”.
According to the statistics there are 34 micro districts, 6 squares, 146 lanes, 34 pass ways, 5 routs, 3 prospects, one avenue, four blind alleys, three crossing points and two small settlements in Chita. The remaining objects of regard are Chita streets. There are 586 of them on the map of the city.
The total length of Chita streets and roads is 580km, 280km of them have asphalt pavement.
The list of Chita streets is updated regularly. Streets which do not have any real estate units are excluded and replaced by new streets created for registration of newly constructed buildings and town-planning areas. The main problem though is streets which have two names. Another obstacle which often faces city services is when there is a call from, say, Rechnaya street, and there are four streets with such name in the city. That is why Street naming committee is very important.
This website will provide the history of Chita streets based on committee materials, information from the state archives, multiple historical records; you may even be able to participate in the creation of new street names.
